A 250 meter high mountain of salt dominating this nice valley. Back when Germany was divided, West Germany decided that is was just fine to make a huge pile of NaCl right where the border made a small “peninsula” into east.
The salt is a residual product from potassium Produktion. 2,9 mio tons a year is deposited.

Both Nether Stowey and Over Stowey lie at the foot of the stunning Quantock Hills in West Somerset.

The name Stowey comes from the Old English for ‘paved road’ which is fitting for the villages having welcomed walkers for hundreds of years. .

I got off the train at Grove Park Station and immediately saw signs for the #CapitalRing walk. There is also a wonderful Railway Children mural. The book’s author Edith Nesbit lived in the area, and the location is thought to be inspired by her walks to Grove Park nature reserve.
