Now that Samir Zitouni is out of hospital (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1j84149g7ko), I hope it's OK to point out that the train incident is a timely example of why #Huntingdon and the wider #Huntingdonshire are generally strongly against aligning with #Peterborough in #LocalGovernmentReorganisation.

Samir Zitouni's family say they are "really happy" but that he faces a significant recovery.

Historically, Lincolnshire, like Gaul, “est omnis divisa in partes tres”. In terms of local government reorganisation in England, this should obviously be the model for unitarisation in the county* - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parts_of_Lincolnshire

* given the distribution of modern population and infrastructure, this is probably untrue/a bad idea, but I’m unsure if there is a “good” way to do it. However it is probably the one that could best be pitched to the very conservative/Conservative locals.

Will the next phase of #localgovernmentreorganisation actually land? | Benjamin P. Taylor

Will the next phase of #localgovernmentreorganisation actually land? This Friday, 12-1, we'll be lifting the lid on what’s really happening in the post-election surge of #devolution, and what it means for '#localgovernemnt trying to lead – not just follow – the reorganisation agenda. We’ve seen transformation stories stuck behind the same tired narratives: scale equals savings, structure equals change, consultation equals compliance - and submission equals success. We’ll be asking some challenging questions: - Is Government still fixated on 500K population targets, or is flexibility creeping in? - Will the Spending Review and the English Devolution Bill shift the incentives? - What lessons should we have learned from Northants, Cumbria and elsewhere – and what’s being ignored? MATTHEW LAZA will share hard-edged political insight – from campaign strategy to SPAD briefings. I will bring perspective from the RedQuadrant business case trenches and Public Service Transformation Academy learning – how to frame a case that’s Treasury-tickable, transformation-ready, and removes all barriers for the Secretary of State to say YES. And Ian Farrow will open up the consultation and communications front – where real public and stakeholder engagement needs to start NOW, not at the finish line. This one-hour webinar with Westco communications is for Leaders, Chief Execs, directors, and anyone shaping the local governance future. A frank, informed discussion that cuts through the fog of reform. 👇👇👇👇👇👇 Book via the first link 👇👇👇👇👇👇 The real question: do we still think better structures will save us – or are we ready to talk about the system behind the system? What do you want to change? What's your hot question on #LGR?
