Live Your Own Life (2023)
(2023 - Viki, 51 1:05 eps)

The 2nd weekender (50+ eps) I've watched. 1st was 2014's "What Happens to My Family?" Both feel they were filmed in 2014. Premise is good - you shouldn't live entirely for others, but the writing was lacking.

The leads carry the show. When people are in dire situations, there is a LOT of whining & little action to resolve it. I did Fforward to get through the elders' tantrums & sulking. What these parents expect from their adult children is beyond understanding & although there is some growth it comes far too slowly.

I did keep watching because it was a little makjang & had some great twists - the last 20 episodes are when things finally start to happen & the show gets interesting instead of infuriating. I was pleased with how the story wrapped up, but the message about living for yourself was somewhat muddied.

Live Your Own Life

Hyo Shim has carved out a successful career as a personal trainer at TS Fitness, but her family obligations start to weigh down on her. Being the only...

Just finished my 3-4X FF skim watch of #KDrama #LiveYourOwnLife and was left with the rightness of the opening words of one MDL review:
"Insanely outdated story"

This show is REALLY old in its whole ethos - glorifying suffering and misery as a sign of inner purity and espousing the virtues of unquestioning filial devotion (to one's actual biological parents).

Continues in screenshot

In the #CDrama #WillLoveInSpring a central part of the FL's story was the fact that she'd had one leg amputated just below the knee when she was 12. The story dwelt a lot on how that motivated her to excel.

Clearly the writer of #KDrama #LiveYourOwnLife watched it, thought "hold my beer" and decided to write an entire Drama about an FL who became the best fitness trainer in Korea despite having been born without

A SPINE

While my hope that #KDrama #LiveYourOwnLife might finally break my Uee drought has withered and dried up, the OTHER actor I started it for is proving to be a delight. Nam Bo Ra's own life story reads like a weekender, which might be why she excels in the genre. In fact, given that she has financially supported all 12 of her siblings ever since she started working, she could almost be the inspiration for Uee's character in this Drama 😀
Almost every MDL review of #KDrama #LiveYourOwnLife says it picks up at ep 30 then tanks again in the last 4, despite a 'happy ending'. Morbidly curious, I'm zipping through at 3X FF to see exactly how bad it gets. I'm especially intrigued by a review which said that any character development in the FL & her parasitic family was completely undone in the final 2 eps. VERY curious about this as up to ep 21 there's nothing that could even remotely be mistaken for character development
Skimming through #KDrama #LiveYourOwnLife and realising the title is the biggest LIE. One third of the Drama done and the FL hasn't done anything remotely like living her own life.
Instead, it's clear that the writer is of the opinion that she should write a character who makes dishrags seem as hard as diamonds and who makes jellyfish seem like fossilised skeletons. Sorry Uee, but even at 3X FF this one is careening to a drop

I've watched really OTT makjang #KDramas that were QUIETER than #LiveYourOwnLife - the storyline isn't makjang, it's quite pedestrian so far in ep 8, but every.single.scene has at least one person SHOUTING.

Also disappointed that so far there's not even a hint of the stereotypical Candy Uee is playing actually doing what the title of the #KDrama says and starting to live her own life

@ronsboy67 It really picks up with the plot twists at episode 32. Before it is quite slow and predictable but I kept watching it because of the over-dramatic acting & script.

#Uee is excellent in #HighSociety too

Mention of #KDrama #HoGusLove earlier reminded me that I am still waiting for another Uee Drama I can finish. I've followed her career with interest, but sadly her choices have not suited my tastes since that one, really. Currently 4 eps into #LiveYourOwnLife and the predictability of the storyline and my already heavy use of FF suggests I'm not likely to survive all 51 episodes of this one either.
