A main problem with #longtermism is that one can always find a big enough slice of the (imagined) far future that dwarfs any change to the better in the near future like the next 100 years. The total sum of well being in that huge slice justifies any suffering nearby. This may be a variant of Parfit’s “repugnant conclusion”. #ethics #repugnant #liveworthliving 1/n
