Last night’s return trip from Vancouver B.C., was better than going there. The Amtrak train even left the station 15 minutes too early (how can they do that?!!). The weather was nice and had some good views on the ride home.
It surprised me that most of the route was along the coastline. In these days of high speed trains, I think Amtrak is still 100 (or more) years away from modern train traveling. It’s a nice alternative for a car, but take your time and don’t be in a hurry when traveling with Amtrak. It really still is in the early 1900s… However, it was nice to use public transportation to go up and down to Vancouver B.C. in one day.

It’s early in the morning when I take the link rail to Seattle. The I5 is pretty full of cars. Arriving at King Street Station and waiting for the train to Vancouver, B.C. First time with Amtrak! Let the adventure begin… 😃

Seattle has successfully expanded its Link Light Rail system, connecting downtown to Bellevue and Redmond via a pioneering floating bridge across Lake Washington. (Thanks Jacob)

Why Seattle’s new train is a big deal

YouTube

Every time I've crossed the lake for a non-commute trip, I've needed to plan around (half-)hourly bus service, with last run often before evening hangs wrapped up.

Trains every 10 minutes most times and every 15 until ~midnight really changes things.

I met friends for lunch today in Bel-Red. What a relief it was to not be constantly checking my phone as we finished to ensure I wouldn't be waiting in the cold and rain for 25+ minutes.

Frequency is Freedom!

Light rail finally connects Seattle to Bellevue and the east side of the lake! I haven’t ridden yet. I’m tempted to get some hair curlers and flip flops to wear on my first train trip to Bellevue, just to spite Kemper Freeman Jr.

Went to the opening of 2 Line at Judkins Park today to get railed

Which was a good plan because it was saturated with queers, furries, and transit enthusiasts (but i repeat myself)

I also helped paint the murals, got a Boop the Orca face tattoo and many good stickers

Don't have a Sound Transit themed watchface, but happy full 2 Line/Cross-lake connection day to all who celebrate! 🥳

Looking forward to tomorrow, as the Seattle area gets to boast of a world's first... the first light rail line to cross a floating bridge. It's been years in the making, had tons of delays, but tomorrow it finally opens and links Seattle proper to Mercer Island, Bellevue and Redmond. Granted, the segment from South Bellevue station to Downtown Redmond station has been open for a while, as well as the International District/Chinatown station in Seattle, but the Judkins Park and Mercer Island stations are all new. The tracks cross the Homer M Hadley Memorial Floating Bridge, which besides carrying the tracks carries the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 from Mercer Island to Seattle. The ribbon cutting is at Sam Smith Park, just across from the eastern entrance of the Judkins Park station, and that's at 9:00 AM. Service begins at 10:00 AM. https://seattletransitblog.com/2026/03/27/a-sneak-peek-at-the-crosslake-connection/ #Seattle #MercerIsland #Bellevue #Redmond #SoundTransit #LinkLightRail #LinkLine2 #PublicTransit #GrandOpening #WorldsFirst
