This rock south of La Rabida Hospital on Chicago’s South Side hosts some of the lakefront’s most magnificent carvings, 12 of them, all apparently from the same hand and executed between 1948 and 1953. When I first found it the rock was right at the water line, very wet and very colorful. When I returned this year it was finally well above the water, thoroughly dry and restored to its normal color. And the light was the best yet. Worth swiping to see the detail. You can see many more Chicago rock carvings in my book Lakefront Anonymous, which you can buy via my interestingideas.com site, linked from my bio.
