Wow! I just realized that #LibremOne is actually running a fork of Mastodon called "Smilodon".

I think what's a bit more surprising is that, if you go to its GitLab page, you'll see that there hasn't been a single commit since about 2 years ago.

I have to say that I am a little disappointed with #LibremOne. It was once supposed to be a unified ecosystem of privacy-oriented services but now I feel it has fallen into obscurity and a general lack of maintenance.

Although it has been my gateway into the #Fediverse and #Matrix, I think it's now time for me to move on. I really hope @purism would be able to sort out the issues with this service because I honestly think it's a brilliant idea.

Apparently Purism enjoys trying out new stuff. Not that I mind, but we've been monitoring their "librem.one" services for a few months now. It seems that the software behind this SaaS offer is rather unmaintained.

Their Mastodon fork hasn't seen a commit in almost(?) a year, and their synapse server is stuck on 1.23.1, which has at least 4 known CVEs.

At least their VPN seems to get some updates from time to time.
