I discovered this novel and its author later in life than I would have liked, but it has enriched me nonetheless. My curiosity was piqued by a Mastodon user who listed it in their profile as their favorite book. I decided to give it a go.

I must say, such works of fantasy enable me to imagine one of the many kinds of futures we could experience on this ‘Pale Blue Dot’ we call home. Despite our tiny presence in the vast cosmos, we possess a remarkable complexity in our cultures, morals, and behaviors. I long for the day when I can witness significant, positive changes in our treatment of one another. Perhaps I'll see such transformation in my lifetime.
