Well, well: the 78th edition of #SydneyHobart was a real thriller, both regarding the fight for line honors and for the Tattersall trophy.
The fight for the line honors came down to a match race between #Comanche and #LawConnect on Hobart's Derwent river, with the latter closing a gap and managing to squeeze past at the very last moment. Race lead changed at least three times throughout the final 30mins, which is madness after 630 nm. #sailing
An update on the #SydneyHobart race: In the fight for line honors supermaxis Andoo #Comanche and #LawConnect are only separated by a meagre 4 nm.
Due to a lack of wind right after the start the course record is out of reach. For the handicap title, the next-smaller boats #Moneypenny, #Alive and #URMGroup look to be in the most favourable position while smaller boats have missed out on the good winds in the Bass Strait, reducing their chances for the Tattersall Cup. #sailing
One important early development to report on reg. #SydneyHobart: HKG-registered 100footer SHK #Scallywag, one of the pre-race favourites, has been forced out of the race with a broken bow sprit. The yacht was facing a protest and a potential penalty after having tacked right on the nose of rival supermaxi Andoo #Comanche when exiting Sydney's harbor bay.
At the moment, Comanche is leading the fleet with #LawConnect in 2nd and #WildThing 100 in 3rd.
