Nichts scheint Turnvereinys so sehr zu motivieren, wie #LastMinutePanic… 🀭

Now visiting family in Bishops Stortford and taking a day trip to that London... I'm sure it will be a lovely time... Not at all crowded with desperate shoppers.

Knitting for the Grands

Subtitled: They keep growing! 🧢

It finally happened. We became grandparents just over a year ago and the focus of my rare knitting sessions immediately turned to knitting things for the grandkid(s). Before this, all the baby and child patterns were sort of interesting. Now, however, I’m scouring my knitting library to find ones that I’d actually knit, in at least one size larger, because, I am still

the world’s slowest knitterβ„’

And I still have a too large yarn stash.

I skipped knitting the required baby blanket because A. We passed down the best-preserved Tunisian crochet blanket made by my mother for her grandchildren and B. My sister-in-law crocheted a drop dead gorgeous one and C. By the time I’d finished knitting mine, the kid would be in grade school (see above note in all CAPS).

Knitting for next year should be my default here, but I am thinking that after a certain age, grandkids (or their parents) would rather wear sweatshirts than handknits. Thoughts?

So while I did give our first grandson his first handknit sweater for his first birthday (and then lengthened the body by about 10cm or so), I’m now knitting a Wonderful Wallaby for his upcoming toddlerhood, a pattern that I’ve owned for at least 30 years, and knitting it with worsted yarn that isn’t much younger than that (just not without the A/C on!).

What’s your summer knitting or craft project?
