Researched: Salford's John O'Brien senior. Joined 4th (Militia) Bn Manchester Regiment 1893 and served with 2nd Bn in Boer War. Re-enlisted into South Lancs Rgt 1914, but went to France in 1917 with 18th Infantry Labour Company of King's (Liverpool). Became 83rd Labour Company of the Labour Corps and worked on light railway construction. Sadly, he died of illness in 1922, a family man in his 40s. #ww1 #genealogy #salford #manchester #lancashire #labourcorps

Possibly as members of the labour companies or the Labour Corps.

Cecil Kirton (1899 - 1952)
enlisted 10th Dec 1917, 7th Batt, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby) Regt, Pte 98824.  Transferred 2/1st Battalion of the Lincs Yeomanry May 1918.  Then transferred 6th Batt Lincolnshire Regt Nov 1918, in France Pte 25079. Duties included supervision of PoW working parties, attached to the 216th PoW Company.
Jan 1920 - posted to 895th Area Employment Company, Labour Corps.
