Researched: Belfast's Charles Tweedie. Twice enlisted under age: Seaforth Highlanders in 1915 (found out) and Royal Irish Rifles 1916 (succeeded). To France December 1917. Killed 21 March 1918 with 15th Battalion near Grugies. He has no known grave. #ww1 #genealogy
Researched: Midleton (Cork) man Chris Hayes. Joined Leinster Regiment in 1904 after service with Cork RGA. Married in 1914. Went to France with 2nd Bn soon afterwards. Gassed near Wulvergem 30.4.16 and severely wounded at Double Crassier (near Loos) in a trench raid 10.1.17. #ww1 #genealogy
Researched: Midleton (Cork) man Edmond Hayes. Joined Connaught Rangers Jan 1915 and went to France with 6th (S) Battalion. Gassed at some point, possible when he was taken POW at Ste-Emilie on 22 Mar 1918. He died of its effects a few months after demobilisation. #ww1 #genealogy
Researched: Huddersfield's Francis Waite. Enlisted Sept 1914 and served in France with 1/5th West Riding Regiment, first in ranks and then as officer. Severely wounded in attack in Ardre valley, 20 July 1918. MC in 1919 New Years Honours. #ww1 #genealogy
Researched: Kettering bricklayer Robert Black. Attested in the Group System and was called up to Royal Engineers in April 1916. Eventually to France and 126th Field Company in July 1918, and was gassed within a matter of days near Maill-Maillet (Somme). It aggravated TB, which caused him serious trouble afterwards. But he served until war's end. #ww1 #genealogy
Researched: South Woodford man Herbert Manley. Joined Special Reserve of Essex Regiment in 1912. To France with a draft for 2nd Battalion in Jan 1915. Died of wounds at Romarin dressing station 9 March 1915, having been wounded in front line north of Le Touquet. #ww1 #genealogy
Researched: George Foggo, born in Ireland to a father who was a Sgt with the ASC. Father died in South Africa in 1900. George joined same corps on boy terms in 1904 and served continuously until 1919. In France with 1st Divisional Train. Then spent some months in North Russia. Killed in 1951 when run over by a lorry of the RASC. #ww1 #genealogy
Researched: Edmund Wright from Clapham Junction. Conscripted at 18, he went to France in Jan 1918 and joined 3/10th Middlesex. Transferred to 9th West Riding Rgt Apr 1918. Wounded near Hamel (Somme) 8 June and finally killed by MG fire in attack on Le Transloy 1 Sept 1918. Reinterred at nearby AIF Burial Groujnd in 1919. #ww1 #genealogy
Researched: Birmingham man Edward Jones. Joined Royal Marine Artillery in January 1914 and had three periods in France during the war. Was killed with three others when with Number 6 Gun team at Beaurains on 26 March 1918. His wife was expecting their only child, a daughter, at the time. #ww1 #genealogy
Researched: Herbert Rigby, who served with 2nd Rifle Brigade in France from May 1915 until a severe head wound near Warneton in late November 1917 sent him home and to discharge. He was convicted of desertion after going missing during battalion's attack near Lesboeufs in 1916 and sentenced to death by a Court-Martial. His sentence was however reduced to 5 years penal servitude and ultimately he was held only for a short time. #ww1 #genealogy
