Two versions of the same famous print by Charles Meryon, done in 1852, of the 19th c. #grotesque or #gargoyle on Nôtre Dame, #LaStryge . The darker retains the surface tone, but the lighter will reproduce better in some cases. Meryon preferred high contrast but used tone (not washing the plate) for some of his etchings.
