One of the first films by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. Or we can fairly say: the first film by the Belgian directors' duo that gained wide attention. (by audiences ànd by critics). The promise / la promesse is shot like a documentary, without any softening aspects. Vintage Dardenne, as we could learn and admire through the years.
