Beyond Leah Remini: 25 Musicians Associated with Scientology

With Leah Remini's Emmy award-winning FX TV show "Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath" drudging up new allegations against the church, its leaders and the celebrity members associated with it, Billboard compiled a list of 25 musicians who are confirmed Scientologists, have been associated with the Church of Scientology or have been alleged to follow Scientology but deny those accusations.

There are two errors into which persons can fall about #LRonHubbard. One is to disbelieve in his significance. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in him. In the 1990s and early 2000s there flourished a lively geek-culture obsession with Hubbard and #Scientology in which I participated to a small degree, drawn like a moth to a flame whose fuel was supplied by the somewhat unhealthful fascination which cults of all sorts exert upon the skeptical and overconfident minds of young nerds of the sort who imagine that it's easy to refute #Christianity merely by pointing out that virgins don't usually give birth, or by quoting Richard Dawkins.

Ron Hubbard was a prolific pulp author and key SF voice of the Golden Age. His 1940 novel Final Blackout, serialized in Astounding Science Fiction, follows a soldier restoring order to war-ravaged England and is seen as his finest SF work. He returned to the genre with Battlefield Earth.

One of the many things we learned at #Caltech in 1992-1994 was about #LRonHubbard. I've mentioned that there were a number of his books in the "Blacker Hovse" dorm library, and as a result I can honestly say that I've read Battlefield Earth cover to cover.

I honestly don't exactly know how I managed that, except to say that for a span of adolescent years I regarded it as a virtue to push through as many books as possible and read everything to completion no matter how unpromising it was. For Battlefield Earth is terrible writing. J. K. Rowling looks workmanlike and competent in comparison to Battlefield Earth.
