北米のスポーツカーレースを統括するIMSAのジョン・ドゥーナン会長は、隆盛を極めるトップレベルのプロトタイプ・カテゴリーに関して、世界の大手自動車メーカーが参戦するという選択肢に「投票した」と表現し、今後このカテゴリーにコミットするさらなるマニュファクチャラーからの発表がある可能性を示唆した。
1月末に行われたIMSAウェザーテック・スポーツカー選手権のシーズン開幕戦、デイトナ24時間レースには、LMDh車両を有する5メーカー（アキュラ、BMW、キャデラック、ランボルギーニ、ポルシェ）が参戦した。今年は、GTPクラスでレースを行うFIA国際自動車連盟／ACOフランス西部自動車との共同プラットフォームであるLMDh規定にとっての3年目となる。
