He was a pioneering figure who ran a mosque in Cape Town intended as a safe haven for gay Muslims.#JulieAndrews stared in the movie (1982) & a Broadway production (1995) of #VictorVictoria in which Julie plays a singer who is a "woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman" . . . which was a production well ahead of the times, even though 1982 doesn't sound all that long ago to me.
This movie has been missing from my #DVD collection for a long time & I bought one thinking it was a copy of the movie but it was copy of the Broadway production instead. I was surprised but not disappointed & am trying to buy a copy of the movie, as well
I've also have movie & play versions #Rent on DVD & it's nice to compare how the plot is adapted for each medium.
This play reminds me of the final line/scene in #SomeLikeItHot where #JackLemon admits to the millionaire played by #JoeEBrown who has been pursing him dressed as a woman that he's actually a man. Joe's response:
"Nobody's perfect." LOL! 😎
. . . which was an even more daring remark back in 1959.😲

Just watched an interesting (to me) lesbian film on #Prime set in the 1800's in rural NY (when Ohio was considered the wild west), called "The World To Come" (2021) co-starring two women who are familiar to me from other films: Katherine Waterson (Fantastic Beasts 1 & 2 & Alien: Covenant) and Vanessa Kirby (Mission Impossible: Fallout & Dead-Reckoning 1) who play 2 unhappily married women to live on adjoining farms.
The movie is narrated by Waterson (apparently as read from her diary). The movie is very slow paced (allowing to see the relationship develop in its own time) & is coupled with a depressing sound track but that didn't distract me from developing an interest in these women to see how their love affair would progress.
Unfortunately, which seems all to common in LBGQT movies, the story ends in tragedy but it's still worth a look if you have interest in romantic movies, regardless of the gender of the people involved.
Prime Video is currently streaming "Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" (1994) an early LBGQT+ movie and cult classic. I have it on DVD but am streaming it now.
The film was not w/o controversy but if you're a member of Prime Video & you've never seen it before (or want to see it again), now's your chance.

Note: When I clicked on the 1st link to the movie I saw, it was offered for free but when I backed out of the movie and tried to find it again, I was directed to a PPV link instead and I had to seach for the free link again.
It is well known the now injured #Neymar is a huge #Bolsonaro supporter with various endorsements during the presidential campaign season.
Less known until now is the latest Brazilian "craque" or superstar, #Richarlison, who scored on a sensational bicycle kick against #Serbia, is an outspoken #progressive on a number of current political issues affecting #Brazil including #racism, #police violence, #LBGQT rights and #Amazon & #Pantanal rain forest destruction.
