So there we have our first Robert Holmes script. Not a great start or end but some interesting ideas in the middle (maybe it is partly the mood I was in watching the first one). As a first story it showed promise and I can see why he was asked back #DoctorWho #Krotons
In less than a day the Doctor has turned this entire society on its head and overthrown a thousand years of tradition. I'm not saying that's a bad thing but he does it very casually. With Eelek still alive I dont think it is going to be smooth sailing for them #DoctorWho #Krotons
The ending of the story is well signposted and feels a little anti-climactic. I'm assuming this was inspired by the early comics and their philosophy that the solution should always be acid or magnets #DoctorWho #Krotons
The scenes with Beta are genuinely funny. He has a childish delight as he plays with chemicals and teaches himself about science hinted at by the Doctor and completely forbidden by the Krotons #DoctorWho #Krotons
Eelek manages to change his position without taking a breath. He berates Selris for the attack and killing their people, then he supports an attack on the Krotons, then he collaborates with the Krotons to hand over the Doctor and Zoe. And he does it seemlessly #DoctorWho #Krotons
The rocks may not look overly convincing but this episode has a nice cliffhanger. The pacing of this story is very unusual. The first episode was very fast. It isn't that these are slow but there is something different I can't quite put my finger on #DoctorWho #Krotons
The HADS is a useful TARDIS feature that I feel we don't have referenced enough. Last story we got a cloaking device and this story a method to escape danger. I'm pleased this era feels confident enough to develop new TARDIS features #DoctorWho #Krotons
"It is not patriotism to lead people into a war they cannot win". I love that quote and that Selris sees straight through Eeleks blatant power grab. Despite appearances there are some really interesting ideas buried in this one #DoctorWho #Krotons
Eelek is the stereotypical politician. A couple of hours ago he was happy to serve the Krotons and do what he was told. Now the truth has been revealed he has seen a way to seize power for himself regardless of the risks to their whole society. #DoctorWho #Krotons
I actually think the Krotons look alright when they are shot from this angle. The top half look interesting (I like the spinning heads). It is only when you see the bottom that they are not so good. Oh and the South African accents are an interesting choice... #DoctorWho #Krotons
