Il Tempo: Levi (Iliad): "2029 decisivo, servono regole su frequenze e investimenti"

Roma, 13 mag. (Adnkronos) - "Il 2029 è un passaggio decisivo per il settore Tlc e per il futuro digitale dell'Italia. La gestione delle frequenze non può essere affrontata con una logica di breve periodo: servono regole che favoriscano investimenti, innovazione e una competizione equilibrata. Con Più Veloci iliad propone una visione industriale che crei le condizioni per reti sempre più performanti e per un mercato che continui a generare benefici concreti per cittadini, imprese e per la competitività del Paese". Ad affermarlo è Benedetto Levi, l'amministratore delegato di Iliad Italia, all'evento 'Telecommunications of the Future - Tlc, Satelliti, AI, Data Center e Cloud: gli asset per l'Italia Digitale' organizzato da Key4Biz a Roma.
Il manager ha illustrato anche l'impianto strategico del piano “Più Veloci”, articolato su quattro direttrici: maggiore disponibilità di spettro – anche attraverso frequenze oggi non utilizzate come la 2.3 GHz – allineamento dei limiti elettromagnetici agli standard europei, revisione dei meccanismi di assegnazione delle frequenze con logiche meno onerose ma vincolate a obiettivi di investimento e accelerazione del 5G, oltre a un principio di coesione regolatoria per garantire condizioni competitive più omogenee.
Sul fronte tecnologico e industriale, Levi ha evidenziato come il futuro delle telecomunicazioni sia sempre più intrecciato con cloud e intelligenza artificiale. “Stiamo investendo lungo tutta la catena del valore, con oltre 3,5 miliardi di euro in infrastrutture cloud e data center. Stiamo sviluppando una piattaforma cloud europea sovrana, riconosciuta a livello europeo per la sua indipendenza da normative extra-UE e impegnata anche in progetti strategici come i cloud della Commissione Europea e l'euro digitale” ha aggiunto. “In ultimo abbiamo finanziato insieme ad altri due soci più di 300 milioni di euro su un laboratorio di ricerca di base in intelligenza artificiale, ma totalmente low cost e modalità open science, open source.” ha concluso Levi.

The manager also outlined the strategic plan for “Più Veloci”, structured around four directions: greater availability of spectrum – also through frequencies today not used such as 2.3 GHz – alignment of electromagnetic limits with European standards, revision of frequency allocation mechanisms with less onerous logics but linked to investment objectives, and acceleration of 5G, as well as a principle of regulatory cohesion to ensure more homogeneous competitive conditions.

On the technological and industrial front, Levi highlighted how the future of telecommunications is increasingly intertwined with cloud and artificial intelligence. “We are investing along the entire value chain, with over 3.5 billion euros in cloud and data center infrastructure. We are developing a sovereign European cloud platform, recognized at the European level for its independence from extra-EU regulations and committed to strategic projects such as the European Commission’s clouds and the digital euro,” he added. “Finally, we have financed, together with two other partners, more than 300 million euros for a basic research laboratory in artificial intelligence, but totally low-cost and open science, open source,” Levi concluded.

Il manager ha sottolineato come il ruolo delle infrastrutture passive sia sempre più centrale in uno scenario di crescente complessità tecnologica e geopolitica. “Le torri non servono più solo alla copertura mobile, ma alla qualità del servizio in contesti ad alta densità e stress di rete, come stadi, trasporti e grandi eventi. È qui che si gioca la vera sfida della connettività moderna, insieme alla resilienza delle reti e alla capacità di garantire continuità operativa anche in scenari critici”, ha spiegato.
Protto ha poi evidenziato il tema della sicurezza e della resilienza energetica delle infrastrutture digitali: “Le reti devono essere progettate per resistere a crisi energetiche e disservizi. Servono sistemi di backup, come batterie sui siti strategici, e soluzioni che consentano anche il bilanciamento energetico attraverso le infrastrutture stesse. Le torri possono diventare parte attiva della resilienza del sistema Paese”.

The manager emphasized how the role of passive infrastructure is becoming increasingly central in a scenario of growing technological and geopolitical complexity. “Towers are no longer just for mobile coverage, but for the quality of service in high-density and network stress contexts, such as stadiums, transport and large events. This is where the real challenge of modern connectivity is played out, together with the resilience of networks and the ability to guarantee business continuity even in critical scenarios,” he explained.
Protto then highlighted the theme of security and energy resilience of digital infrastructure: “Networks must be designed to withstand energy crises and service disruptions. Backup systems are needed, such as batteries at strategic sites, and solutions that also allow for energy balancing through the infrastructure itself. Towers can become an active part of the national system’s resilience.”
