#Kalhu, also known as #Nimrud, was an ancient Mesopotamian city in modern northern Iraq that became the capital of the Assyrian Empire under King Ashurnasirpal II (reigned 884-859 BCE). He shifted the empire's center from Ashur to Kalhu, transforming it from a dilapidated settlement into a grand city with a massive royal palace, impressive walls, and lavish gardens that featured exotic animals and plants brought from military campaigns.
