She got her radio license when she was in her 70s and passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 88. I knew her from the Upper Peninsula DMR net where she was often net control. And she knew my family (Marquette is a small town) and would ask after my mom when we talked on the air.

Thanks to Lucille #KD8PTE for running the net and asking after my Mom.

HARA runs a 6-repeater linked system #K8LOD in Marquette and Alger County Michigan, in the U.P. Check-ins from Marquette, Gwinn, Harvey, Three Lakes, plus one person on Echolink from Seward, Alaska.

Two digital QSOs this evening with Lucillie #KD8PTE who is up in Marquette MI. First via the Upper Peninsula #DMR net she runs on Brandmeister #TG31268 at 630p, next via K8LOD Marquette repeater on Ham Shack Hotline 94026.

Of the two the DMR is easier to manage because even if the audio is a bit distorted, the Pi-Star dashboard I am using makes it very clear who is talking.

The report from Marquette is good snow forecast for the Feb 13 UP 200 sled dog race https://up200.org

Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association - UP 200

QSO just now with Lucille #KD8PTE on the #K8LOD repeater in Marquette, MI using #HamShackHotline .

K8LOD is on Echolink and on Allstar, and apparently the Ham Shack Hotline connection is via that Allstar interconnect.

Audio quality very good (as I guess I would expect since it's analog all the way?)

"Is it ham radio?"

It was analog RF on Lucille's end, and also we didn't completely understand how the bits were being routed, so I guess yes?

11 stations, 30 minutes on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan #DMR Sunday night net, Brandmeister TG 31268. Starts at 630p Eastern Time Sunday nights, generally winds up at 700p. This net had 5 check-ins from the UP and 6 others from the rest of Michigan. Thanks to Lucille #KD8PTE for running the net.

UP net on #DMR. Lucille #KD8PTE net control. Check-ins from Marquette, Harvey, Sands Twp, Chocolay Twp, L'Anse, and Ishpeming MI, plus Florida and Alaska and several folks in downstate Michigan. Reports: snow, snow removal, ice fishing, deer sightings, cinnamon rolls etc.

Starts at 630p Sundays Eastern (2330 UTC), and runs about 30 minutes, to be followed by the #HARA emergency 2m on 147.270 in MQT.

29 minutes, 11 checkins.

[ #yooper #tg31268 ]

Lucille #KD8PTE runs the Upper Peninsula net on Brandmeister TG 31268 (the UP talk group), 630p Eastern / 2330 UTC on Sundays.

Discussion among other things of snow in Marquette MI (about 3 inches) and the appearance of deer in people's yards.

A nice group, I try to check in when I can.

[ #UpperPeninsula #yooper ]

The #UpperPeninsula net on #DMR TG 31268 had 6 check-ins and ran 17 minutes. Lucille #KD8PTE was net control. Locations represented: Marquette, the Soo, Milwaukee, Florida, and me here in Ann Arbor.

Great QSO on the Brandmeister DMR #UpperPeninsula net (TG 31268) just now.

Talked to John #KC8ULE who was DMR mobile on I-75 heading north (Marge #KD8AIL was driving) - not 100% sure of the exact setup but I think there was a hotspot with a cell connection involved.

Lucille #KD8PTE joined in as well - she is quoted in this 2021 Detroit Free Press story about ham radio in the UP. http://www.arrl.org/files/file/In%20remote%20U_P_%20ham%20radio%20helps%20Michiganders%20connect%20amid%20isolation.pdf

And of course because Marquette MI is a small town everyone knew my mom who lives there.
