Court-ordered auction of controversial African art scrapped after collection owner files for bankruptcy

About 1,400 pieces of African art, which once were in the possession of Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis, were set to be sold Thursday morning as part of a nearly $990,000 court judgment against Sam Njunuri. The auction was canceled a few hours beforehand because Njunuri filed for chapter 13 bankruptcy protection on Wednesday.
