tonight i had a blast from the past by the acoustic set of #DanDonnelly & #JonSevink from #TheLevellers.
it was very emotional because so many memories got triggered.
you know, the levellers for me and my traveller community back in the 90s was like what crass is for my punk community.
back then, i was squatting for hundreds of new age travellers who fled thatcher after the #BattleOfTheBeanfield & came to my city in NL where i was heavily involved in the squatting scene. they were traumatised & looking for shelter, work & community.
we listened and played levellers songs all the time, we went to a gig once in a convoy of 5-6 vehicles, & went completely mental at the gig. i think for them, the music was helping them deal with the trauma they went through in england, & then in NL, cause we were facing diabolical living conditions too.
i didn't hear these songs for 30 yrs, and now i got blown away by everything i associate with it.
how powerful #music is.
#RIP everyone who didn't make it, i know many who knew me then are likely dead now. but if you read this & remember a punk called gif, (you'll recognise my profile pic) get in touch π€
