The solution? Games should be marketed as product or licenses.

If that's a license, then you should expect revocation by fair terms (cheating, time, support etc.).

License or not, revoking a license should mean the publisher must keep its functionality without its involvement.

The online is part of the license you paid full price for.

I think Jason has right in another point: games selling as licenses, but marketed as products.

The problem of games is that licenses are a bad practice. License revocation is enforced when cheating.

And that is other problem: destroying part of the product remotely.
