I hadn’t heard of James Carr until this album, and I think I’ve been missing out. He’s definitely one of the greatest soul voices of all time and this album is the perfect show case for his range. The standout track for me is The Dark End of the Street which is spine tingling.

The 2003 re-release of this album after Carr’s death at the tragically young age of 58 has an extra 13 tracks which could have filled an album on their own.

Truly excellent!

So a couple of nights ago we were watching the final episode of the TV show Hijack. During the final scene and while the end credits were rolling I was introduced to one of the finest soul singers of our time. James? No. Aretha? No. Otis? No. It was James
