Meanwhile, my birthday is tomorrow, so I've treated myself to a low G whistle, arriving in a few days. I am told it is a good stepping stone to the low D and, as the stretch is easier, I should be able enjoy the low tone I am after while I keep attempting the low D! 😁

Mike TorrIt's becoming clear to me now, that one unexpected requirement for playing jigs on a whistle is the ability to fill one's lungs with air in about 10ms.
My beautiful Lír high D whistle is finally here. It sounds great! Intonation quirks are slightly different from the cheap one I was using before, so I'll need to get used to it. The low D sustains better and more easily, and has more "cutting power". Very pleased.
