On Friday, May 08, while American naval forces were attempting to withdraw three of their destroyers, which had violated maritime law with aerial support from the Strait of Hormuz towards the Sea of Oman, the naval forces of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran carried out a joint missile and drone operation against this naval group using 8 cruise missiles and 24 suicide drones.

As a result of this operation, and despite intensive attempts by American naval forces to repel the attack, one cruise missile and three suicide drones successfully struck the American destroyers.

The Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the new control area of the Strait of Hormuz controlled by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran as follows:
