Iran, US 15-point plan to end the war and weekend negotiations

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, stated that direct talks between Iran and the United States could take place in the coming days in Pakistan. “I believe this beautiful week in Islamabad,” he emphasized. According to Reuters, the United States has sent Iran a 15-point plan to end the war. The plan was delivered via Pakistan. It is unclear whether Israel will endorse the proposal, nor whether Tehran is willing to accept the document as a basis for negotiations.

Pakistani officials stated that the proposal generally concerned the easing of sanctions, a reduction in Iran’s nuclear program, restrictions on its ballistic missile program, and access for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Separately, an Egyptian official involved in mediation efforts between Iran and the United States said that the proposal was a “global agreement” to achieve a ceasefire, but warned that it is “under consideration” as a basis for further negotiations. The U.S. delegation at the talks could be led by Vice President JD Vance.

Donald Trump stated that negotiations to end the war with Iran are taking place “right now” and that Iran has agreed to “never possess” a nuclear weapon. Yesterday the American president had declared that he had “won this war.” Asserting that Tehran had given him a “gift” “related to oil and gas” concerning the Strait of Hormuz, without providing further details. However, this information is not confirmed by the government of Tehran, which this morning continued its bombing of military targets in the Persian Gulf countries.
