We need competing batteries. #Gogoro is too much like Apple in arrogantly trying to go proprietary. #Kymco announced they were going to open their #Ionex platform up to other manufacturers, & it looks like Gogoro is being forced to play nice with others. I like their battery-swapping tech, but I do not trust their CEO at all. We need something to counterbalance his ego.
#Gogoro electric scooters offered a unique battery-swapping way to charge up. Then #Kymco announced the #Ionex, which offers 4 ways. Now Gogoro thinks it's being a hero by announcing a 2nd way, making it the "world's only dual system"...but they're still 2 behind the competition. They need to offer home chargers, too, if they hope to compete with Kymco's customer-friendly system.
This article on the #Kymco #Ionex electric scooter mentions "open" no less than 4 times. I have high hopes for it, especially considering there's already a Kymco dealership on every street corner and small village in #Taiwan. I hope they're reasonable about licensing out the #tech to other manufacturers, unlike #Gogoro and their closed, proprietary system.

KYMCO launched the Ionex at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show as the spearhead of a new battery-charging strategy. The Taiwanese manufacturer proposes a power outlet network that combines typical charging stations with battery-swapping vending machines, all the while remaining open to other manufacturers.
I'm not a huge fan of the #Gogoro electric scooter because of the way they're so controlling of everything. This new #Kymco #Ionex looks promising: home charging, battery swapping, plug-in charging, extra batteries. I just hope they're better than Gogoro at licensing out the #tech to other companies.
