“I am recognized by white society because the law is the language they speak. Indigenous people have to live and survive twice as much in a day... Because of colonization, because we don't have autonomy, the world is not running Indigenously. I am speaking to you in English, my fourth language, and I have to do it well while being well-dressed at all times—otherwise, I will not be seen as an educated person.” https://www.vogue.com/article/aaju-peter-twice-colonized-interview #inuit #IndigenousStrong #Indigenous #InuitExcellence

Rio Huallaga, Peru: a premature farewell

Baseline health testing in the Shawi community of Louis Terry revealed over 60% of children with anemia. I have been carrying out medical anthropology studies with Rainforest Flow to implement an eco-friendly clean water and sanitation project there and monitor long-term health benefits. The Shawi are the 4th largest indigenous people of the Peruvian Amazon, with a population of 26,000, yet remarkably little anthropological research has been done with them. #IndigenousStrong #Indigenousrights #amazon #publichealth #perú @anthropology @[email protected] https://rainforestflow.org/

Today is World AIDS Day.
I am thinking about my mom, who lives with #HIV; my uncle, who passed recently bc of #AIDS; and the many others who are affected by this illness. Remember, everyone with AIDS is someone's loved one.
