Ah! Open Discussion sesh at @alianational #InfoOnline25 is so goooooood! Kyleigh Langrick on #IndigenousKnowledges in #Libraries and moving away from “cultural load” and towards “colonial load” — Reframe the discussion to place the burden of change where it should be: on the shoulders of colonisers. “Colonial load suggests that non-Indigenous people must question their own practices.”
Plus, it’s crucial to “have that spirit of enquiry and listen, and listen, and listen.”

“I demurred; much of our mythology and lore was indeed preserved in illuminated manuscripts written in Irish monasteries in the Middle Ages. “Maybe,” she said, “but is the female lore there? And what about the herbal lore? And the knowledge of magic?”

I admitted very little of this type of material had survived. But Lewis Cardinal interrupted with a challenge. ‘How would you know?’ he said. I said I was familiar with the contents of many of the major manuscripts, and that the type of knowledge Jo-Ann was referring to simply wasn’t there. @cspannagel That’s unexpected! Most Digital Storytelling people I know are really critical. And Elders who are key to #IndigenousKnowledges are keen on putting things in context. Not hype, not dismissing, not “pros and cons”. Deep and thorough assessment of what impact in which context according to which approach the #storytelling will happen.
@cspannagel Broad question. One obvious angle: #DigitalStorytelling. Another obvious angle: #IndigenousKnowledges. Lots of empirical research in both branches.
@mguhlin Will do!
Then, we could have a chat about #IndigenousKnowledges and #TraditionalKnowledgeLabels.
