The SNP's Revival and Its Impact on Scotland's Political Landscape

The Scottish National Party (SNP), which appeared to be in serious trouble after heavy losses in the last general election and leadership instability, is showing signs of recovery ahead of the Scottish Parliament elections next May. Despite enduring multiple leadership changes and a police investiga... [More info]

London refuses to give the people of Scotland an #IndependenceReferendum.

The question of #ScottishIndependence will be answered at the ballot box in a general election.

With uncanny timing, the police investigation means @theSNP indyref funds are locked.

Don't let them stop us.

The three candidates for #firstminister should heed this poll and take plans for another #referendum off the table.

It’s time for the people’s priorities, not the SNP’s.

Support for Scotland leaving the UK has fallen to just 39%

A new poll has shown support for Scottish independence has fallen to just 39 per cent. The YouGov survey for Sky News was published ahead of tonight’s television debate between the three candidates for SNP leader. Pamela Nash, chief executive of Scotland in Union, said: “This is another poll showing support for independence decreasing, and reaffirms again that Scots want a government that focuses on the issues that really matter. “While the SNP continues to obsess about independence, the public

I remind anyone who thinks Joanna Cherry is asking a good question about Northern Ireland, what Cherry's declared views on the uprising and the civil wars of Ireland are:

(It's not pretty. And no supporter of Scottish independence should endorse it.)

Saying that #NicolaSturgeon resigned because of the Gender Recognition Act amounts to say she was ousted by the Daily Mail. The #GRA was the most discussed issue in the history of the Scottish Parliament (hard fact) with opposers getting a huge platform and all resources to make her point, but is it now going to be portrayed as an imposition of Kim-Jong Sturgeon? The #IndependenceReferendum, on the other hand, was actually playing with fire, and most likely to be the cause.

A short 🧵 triggered by the recent publication of two contradictory #opinionpolls measuring support for #ScottishIndependence.

They reminded me of my reaction to the response of, I think, Alister Jack, to the Supreme Court decision on the holding of an #independencereferendum. In essence, he said no referendum till at least 6 months’ worth of polls showed over 60% support for independence 1/

I am so sorry to my friends in #Scotland regarding the decision of the #UKSupremeCourt today regarding the #IndependenceReferendum - I do, however, hope that this decision can be challenged and that there will be an opportunity for the Scottish people to exercise a decision for autonomy that doesn’t involve a mandatory consent from WM.

So basically, the UK is holding Scotland hostage. Cause there is no way this government is gonna give consent for the Referendum to happen.
Scotland should have a say over it’s own destiny. Especially as the Tories promised that the UK would stay within the European Union.

#IndyRef2
UK Supreme Court unanimously holds that #IndyRef2 is NOT possible without Westminster/Whitehall consent.
Scottish government defeated.

The UK Westminster Government is blocking the democratic rights of the people of #scotland.

The rhetoric about a voluntary union and partnership of equals rings hollow.

Scottish Independence SC Ruling - the ruling today of the SC that an independence referendum cannot be held without Westminster consent is not surprising.

The role of the court is to interpret the law, and the law on this was fairly clear.

Does that mean it's over? No. Why not? (A thread)
