"If countries follow through on current promises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the latest estimates suggest that Earth's temperature will top out around 2.5 degrees Celsius of warming this century."

"geographically-isolated populations of the sea creatures mated freely around 125,000 years ago, signaling an ice-free corridor during a period when global temperatures were similar to today. The findings suggest the #WestAntarcticIceSheet is closer to collapse than previously thought"

Antarctic octopus DNA reveals ice sheet collapse closer than thought

Scientists investigating how Antarctica's ice sheets retreated in the deep past have turned to an innovative approach: studying the genes of octopuses that live in its chilly waters.

West Antarctic Ice Sheet collapse is 'unavoidable' — study

The British Antarctic Survey says warming waters are melting West Antarctica's ice shelf, contributing to rising sea levels. Research shows the trend is set to continue until at least the end of the century.

Several years ago I read Peter Ward’s book on The Flooded Earth, our future on a world without ice-caps. Watch this presentation from 2020:

Ice sheets have in the past collapsed at rate of 600metres a day…that’s 20 times faster than previously thought. It means ice scientists thought might take 200 years to melt, could actually be gone in 20 years. That has serious implications for sea level rise and anyone living on or near the coast.
