Babson student tells AP how a mistaken deportation upended her life
A Massachusetts college student mistakenly deported to Honduras said the experience left her in shock and numb and wondering why she had been detained. Any Lucia Lopez Belloza, a Babson College freshman, spoke to the The Associated Press on the same day her lawyer filed documents asking a judge to order the government to come up with a plan to return her to the United States. Lopez Belloza was detained at Boston’s airport on Nov. 20 and flown to Honduras two days later. This happened despite an emergency court order to keep her in the U.S. for at least 72 hours. Government lawyers in court admitted they violated the judge’s order, but they argued the court lacks jurisdiction.
