I use something like the modern, and much simpler version of the continuous bell, really suited for bumpier (dirt) terrain:
Requires a shoulder wiggle to dingle on asphalt. Most hikers appreciate it.
I do like to look at that 1919 catalog and think about how many of our bicycle technologies were already relatively perfected then. Tubeless tire technology, tire plugs, integrated headsets, racks, bells, even anatomic saddles with central cut-outs were all there. I just bought a new bike a week ago, the #Hudski Dualist, which proudly calls itself an #ATB (All Terrain Bicycle) and it even further blurs the lines between #gravel and #MTB It looks a lot like my 191X Mead Ranger Special.
