mitten im Pessachfest und kurz vor Ostern wollen wir uns noch herzlich bei Ihnen bedanken: Sie sind großartig! Bereits knapp 50.000 Euro sind im Rahmen unserer aktuellen Spendenverdopplungskampagne eingegangen. Die Hälfte ist geschafft! Vielen Dank an Sie und an alle, die zu diesem wunderbaren Etappenerfolg beigetragen haben. Noch bis zum 30. April haben wir Zeit, die zweite Hälfte einzuwerben. Dann werden die Bethe Stiftung und die HeLe Avus Stiftung jede der bis dahin eingegangenen Spenden verdoppeln – bis zu der Obergrenze von 100.000 Euro.
Im Rahmen dieser Spendenaktion haben uns immer wieder Fragen erreicht. Wie sieht es aus mit dem Bau? Warum geht es nicht voran? Wann werden wir das House of One besuchen können?
Tatsächlich hat sich seit unserer feierlichen Grundsteinlegung auf dem Petriplatz in Berlin im Jahr 2021 in unserer Stiftung sehr viel getan – der Bildungsbereich ist enorm gewachsen, allein im vergangenen Jahr haben über 6.000 Menschen unsere Angebote wahrgenommen, jeden Monat laden Rabbiner, Pfarrerin und Imam zu Friedensgebeten und unseren „Lesezeichen“ ein und es gibt viele Veranstaltungen mehr. Unser Netzwerk ist größer geworden - in Deutschland und darüber hinaus. Hieran hat nicht zuletzt Ihre Spendenbereitschaft großen Teil.
Nur der sichtbare Fortschritt des Baus unseres House of One lässt noch auf sich warten. Dieser Stillstand ist natürlich für uns – und für Sie – eine große Geduldsprobe. Sie ist es auch gerade deshalb, weil das House of One als sichtbares Symbol der Verständigung unter den Religionen heute wichtiger ist denn je. Diese Ermutigung hören wir immer wieder und immer häufiger.
Auch wenn Sie auf der Baustelle nichts sehen, bewegt sich im Hintergrund dennoch viel: Unsere Planungsbüros haben in den vergangenen Monaten die Planung des House of One auf den Prüfstand gestellt – angestoßen von uns, gemeinsam mit unseren Förderern von Bund und Land Berlin. Ziel war es vor allem, den massiv gestiegenen Baupreisen entgegenzuwirken: Corona, Ukraine-Krieg und die gesamtwirtschaftliche Lage haben die Kosten hochschnellen lassen. Als Hauptaufgabe wurde deshalb definiert, im Rahmen der von Bund und Land bewilligten rund 41 Millionen Euro zu bleiben und die gesamte Planung darauf auszurichten.
Hierfür haben wir in enger Abstimmung mit den Zuwendungsgebern im Rahmen einer Variantenprüfung sowohl die Nutzfläche als auch die Bauweise und die technische Ausstattung des bestehenden, international gewürdigten Entwurfs vereinfacht sowie Alternativen betrachtet, um das verfügbare Budget einhalten zu können.
Und wann geht es weiter? Aktuell wird dieser Weg durch das Bauministerium und die Berliner Senatsverwaltung für Kultur auf seine Durchführbarkeit und Vereinbarkeit mit dem Zuwendungsrecht geprüft. Zu entscheiden ist insbesondere, ob die vom Deutschen Bundestag und dem Abgeordnetenhaus Berlin beschlossenen Fördergelder für diesen Realisierungsweg verbindlich freigegeben werden können.
Wir wissen nur zu gut, dass all das auch von Ihnen Geduld fordert. Um so dankbarer sind wir Ihnen allen, dass Sie über so viele Jahre an unserer Seite geblieben sind – und bitte auch weiter bleiben, damit wir uns hoffentlich bald zur Einweihung im House of One in Berlin die Hände schütteln können!

3. Internationale Friedenspädagogik-Konferenz
"Frieden lernen und lehren – Demokratie gestalten" ist das Motto dieser in Berlin stattfindenden Konferenz. Neben der Stiftung für Bildung und Erziehung, der Stiftung Dialog und Bildung sowie dem Netzwerk WERTvolle Schulen ist die Stiftung House of One Mitveranstalterin.
In einer Zeit zunehmender gesellschaftlicher Polarisierung, digitaler Desinformation und religiös motivierter Spannungen gewinnt Friedensbildung an Bedeutung, gerade auch an Schulen und Hochschulen. Die Konferenz richtet sich vor allem an pädagogische Fachkräfte, Menschen aus der Wissenschaft, aus freien Trägern, aus Religionsgemeinschaften sowie aus Verwaltung und Politik.

of the House of One,
In the midst of Passover and just before Easter, we want to take this opportunity to thank you: You are amazing! We have already received nearly 50,000 Euro as part of our current donation-matching campaign. We’re halfway there! Thank you so much to you and to everyone who has contributed to this wonderful milestone. We still have until April 30 to raise the second half. Then, the Bethe Foundation and the HeLe Avus Foundation will double every donation received by that date—up to a maximum of 100,000 Euro.
Throughout this fundraising campaign we’ve received many questions. What’s the status of construction? Why isn’t progress being made? When will we be able to visit the House of One?
In fact, a great deal has happened at our foundation since our ceremonial groundbreaking at Petriplatz in Berlin in 2021– our educational programs have grown enormously; last year alone, over 6,000 people took advantage of our offerings. Every month, rabbis, pastors, and imams invite people to peace prayers and our "Lesezeichen" (reading circle) evenings, and many more events. Our network has expanded – in Germany and beyond. Your generosity has played a major role in this.
A Symbol of Interfaith Understanding
Only the visible progress of the construction of our House of One is still slow in coming. This standstill is, of course, a great test of patience for us – and for you. It is all the more so because the House of One, as a visible symbol of interfaith understanding, is more important today than ever before. We hear this encouraging message again and again, and with increasing frequency.
Even if you see nothing happening on the construction site, a lot is still happening behind the scenes: Over the past few months, our planning offices have put the House of One’s plans to the test – at our initiative, together with our federal and Berlin state sponsors. The primary goal was to counteract the massive rise in construction costs: the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and the overall economic situation have caused costs to skyrocket. The main task was therefore defined as staying within the approximately 41 million euros approved by the federal and state governments and aligning the entire planning process accordingly.
Controlling Costs
To this end, in close coordination with the funding partners, we conducted a variant analysis to simplify both the usable floor area and the construction method and technical specifications of the existing, internationally acclaimed architecture, while also exploring alternatives to stay within the available budget.
And when will things move forward? The Federal Ministry of Construction and the Berlin Senate Department for Culture & Community are currently reviewing this approach to assess its feasibility and compliance with grant regulations. In particular, a decision must be made as to whether the funding approved by the German Bundestag and the Berlin House of Representatives can be officially released for this implementation plan.
We know all too well that all of this also requires patience on your part. We are all the more grateful to each of you for having stood by our side for so many years – and please continue to do so, so that we can hopefully meet in the near future for the grand opening at the House of One in Berlin!

3. International Conference on Peace Education
“Learning and Teaching Peace – Shaping Democracy” is the theme of this conference taking place in Berlin. Alongside the Foundation for Education and Upbringing, the Dialogue and Education Foundation, and the WERTvolle Schulen network, the House of One Foundation is a co-organizer.
In a time of increasing social polarization, digital disinformation, and religiously motivated tensions, peace education is gaining importance, especially in schools and universities.
The conference is primarily aimed at educators, academics, representatives from independent organizations, religious communities, as well as government and political officials. Conference language is German.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 pm (CET) the House of One-Box is open thanks to our wonderful team of volunteers.
Exception: The Box will be closed this year on Easter Sunday.
