Another day, another zine ! Here is JDs: the founding zine of homocore/queercore brought together by young Bruce Labruce and G.B. Jones. The eight (and rumored ninth) issues appeared beween 1985 and 1991 in the streets of Tkoronto and Tio'tià:ke. A relic of the teenage faggot punk spirits that birthed it, the zine is a wonderful mix of anticonformist art in its multiple forms that pulls its readers in the constant struggle against straightness. "JDs", standing for Juvenile Delinquent, marked the queer culture forever, creating the term "Homocore", later "Queercore”, for itself, to be used ever since to bring together similar minded pieces with movies, music, journals and beyond. As much as it has now passed the vintage stage, its incredibly refreshing to be able to glance at the political climate they were a part of and the complete refusal of norms the gay elites were trying to establish.

Beside all this, all of the issues are visually stunning, with pictures and drawings of J.B. Jones, along with fun and rad texts, making them a pleasure to go through. I love these zines and they have a special place in my collection. I share them as much as i have opportunities to do so and i was lucky enough to see some original copies at the Tkoronto Arquives. I’m trying to hunt down relevant piece of media i can find produced by the authors, with now numerized copies of another queercore zine from J.B. Jones called Double Bill and some movies produced by Bruce Labruce. They later both continued their artistic paths and managed to turn it into careers, adding to the amount of work they produced.

Anyway, its fun, its cool, its rad, i like it and i hope y’all will too !

The zines are available on a pdf hosted by a random wordpress user at https://daringfawnyball.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/j-d-s.pdf and in some archives. The pdf has some pages out of order, so i personally spit and rearanged the zines to be able to print them. Otherwise i can always share the files if you DM me i guess ?

Great to see a mention of Tom Jennings, best known around here as the originator of #FidoNet, gay activist and maker of the #homocore #zine, in a Phaidon book about zines in the bookshop at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart.
