The City Beneath (pt. 1)
Hidden beneath Green Park lies a forgotten network of corridors, once Dover Street station. During the Second World War these tunnels were sealed off from the public and repurposed as a protected shelter for the senior management of London Underground. They carry the traces of that era still: tiled walls discoloured by time, signage pointing nowhere, iron ribs arching like the skeleton of a vessel.
I had been looking forward to this Hidden London tour for a long time. Unfortunately, the camera didn't always respond the way I hoped – light and shadow were hard to master down here. Still, a few frames seemed worth keeping, fragments of a subterranean memory.
What fascinates me most is how these spaces oscillate between utility and myth. Once built for transit, later for survival, today they exist only as ghost architecture: mute witnesses to the city above, holding its history in silence.
