Digging through old poems I wrote... This one is from some time around 2002 or so.

London Underground

a mouse scampers
between tracks -
the thick sticky black
clings to its soft fur
like midnight toffee.
It feasts on piccadilly
and leicester square -
it is eating london
from the inside.
rumbling cans of people
are shunted back and forth
through mouse tunnels
underground -
and its whiskers quiver
in the dark breeze
that precedes
the tube.
