We have always made a #habit of #eatingout on a #Friday evening. Since our house move this has often at a #pub in the neighbouring village of #Hemsby #Norfolk

Those in the #uk will be aware that the #coast is moving rapidly inland there and with each new #storm more #clifftop #houses are lost to the #sea

I wonder what message the #landlord has in mind with a poster on the restaurant wall that reads:

@JugglingWithEggs from the mid to late 80s until his death in 2018 my late father lived near the post office in #Hemsby village.
Coastal erosion was known about when he moved there, he actually viewed a property that was cheap for a quick sale but rejected it because of its proximity to the sea.
I do feel sorry for the people who have bought properties amongst the dunes and lost them or are in danger of losing them.
I dislike the local tradition of calling them cliffs and believe it to be misleading, they are sand dunes which have no cohesion other than a thin layer of of vegetation. There's practically no protection from the sea.
Estate agents work for the sellers, they have no obligation to the buyer. Caveat Emptor applies most harshly to these properties because most of them are of non traditional construction which makes them just about impossible to secure a mortgage regardless of any erosion problems.

Coastal erosion is dramatic and real in #Norfolk, particularly in #Hemsby.

Should estate agents be more honest about it? Until there is a government requirement to state the risk, they won’t. They don’t on anything. They believe that’s why you pay a solicitor to do searches.

But are they the villains here? What about those trying get a last gasp buck?

Expect more cases.
