🥵 It’s time to strike while it’s hot!
This week is set to smash records for June which is why we are calling a Heat Strike on the hottest day of the year so far!
Stay safe and, if you can, stay home.
Sign up to show you’re taking part: https://heatstrike.uk/
Here are three simple ways to take part in the Heat Strike this week:
🚶🏽♀️Walk out - if work is putting you in imminent danger, you have the right to walk out under “Section 44” health and safety legislation. But you can still show your support even if you’re safe by walking out at lunchtime with a Heat Strike placard or banner with colleagues to share on social media with #HeatStrike @heatstrike.uk.
🌡️Take your workplace’s temperature - snap a pic of a thermometer at work & share it on social media with #HeatStrike @heatstrike.uk to demand a maximum workplace temperature now!
💧Set up a cool station - hand out water and safety advice to help your community. Set up a shady gazebo outside a busy station, local warehouse or office block.
You can find more ways to take part in the Heat Strike flatpack when you sign up. https://heatstrike.uk/
Over the past three summers we’ve built the relationships we were told would never work, creating solidarity between trade unionists and climate activists. From the TUC unanimous passing of a Heat Strike motion in 2024, Cool Stations across the country in 2025, and Section 44 training at union conferences.
When it hit 35°C in May we heard union and party leaders call for change. The pressure is building. This week is our chance as a coalition to win a campaign the Bakers Union have been working towards for over a decade.
Extreme heat is going to keep happening, and these heat waves will be increasingly hard on workers. But we are cooler together. Let's use this summer of heat to fight for better conditions now and a safer future for workers.
