That's right: I'm flying INTO Kahului, Maui.
I'm flying into an island that's on fire. People are trying to get OFF the island I'm flying into.
This is ridiculous.

TMW your non-stop flight out of Hawaii is suddenly cancelled at 7:00AM & every other non-stop flight out is either cancelled or booked full...
...so Hawaiian Air moves you to a one-stop flight to Maui - yes, the island currently on fire - for another flight leaving Kahului, Maui for Los Angeles...
...which just got delayed by 13hrs, meaning we'll be in the airport living at the gate & in the bathrooms like Viktor Navorski until tomorrow at noon.
Sigh.

So Alaska Airlines has nonstop, round trip flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Honolulu, HI (HNL) at ~9:00AM daily for <$450... as does United, American & Delta.
None of them are in Terminal B/Gates 200-225 of Tom Bradley International. They all have appear to have reasonable gate locations - significantly less than half a mile from their respective ticket counter. Unlike #HawaiianAir.
Warning to all Hawaiian Airlines travellers flying out of Los Angeles-based gates:
There is a HALF-MILE trek across floors in LAX required to get to your gate from the main terminal.
None of the people movers ever work despite there being 3 of them along the route at Tom Bradley.
The haul is so excruciating, elderly have to stop to rest halfway to HA's 200-225 gates.
Don't believe me? A journalist actually wrote about how bad this is:
