azixcel started reading lays of the heathfire series because si forwarded me a post describing it as 'old people poly are trying to get out of politics and have a nice time together' but i cannot stress enough how much it is 'old people in queerplatonic AND found family relationships fumbling trying to talk to each other for years while trying to get to the point in their careers where they can go and live the rest of their lives in a house that they have already bought to make this dream come true while the events keep happening god everyone is tired of doing their job but also they love doing it. and also the events keep Happening and what if everybody wants to have a breakdown? there's no time have you seen the situation in nijan. we gotta do something about nijan your radiancy' and they also love each other and the world and people around them very much. and the moon trying to get her bf back with a lap dance or whatever is not even something major. yeah it happened. everyone was very surprised. it may have awakened something in a few people. nvm we have a council of princes guys we gotta focus
And still this description is wrong and oversimplifies everything and also just. Hrhghhhhh.
And also it very much IS 'i would love for the governments and the world to be like this' world building which i love with my whole soul.
ANYWAY yes please read lays of the heathfire series. Especially kip books aka 'the hands of the emperor' and 'at the feet of the sun'.
I am in love with the series. I am tearing it's characters into small pieces and looking at those pieces under a microscope. i have a headache after reading the return of fitzroy angursell, because fucking hell fitzroy. fitzroy. fitzroy. I am screaming in the field about kip mdang and then also staring at a lake thinking thank goddard for making someone who i am so very normal about also be asexual in a way i am. and then i am also cursing her because now the things i am laughing about need fucking. at least 15 minutes of explaining and they don't seem funny unless you're reading the original text in context.
I fear that there will come a day my friends will ban me bringing up lays of the heathfire series because i genuinely. genuinely. talk about them too much. but they deserve it
