So of course I opened up the pedal and hacked it. Modified the switch and flipped it over, which resulted in the actuator from the pedal lever no longer hitting the switch. I modeled this part from scratch to add an extra wide foot to the actuator, so the switch now gets depressed when you step on the pedal. We'll see how this holds up, but I have more ideas if it doesn't.
