There could also be clarity in the bill text that it is meant to facilitate matches between blood relatives or direct donation to a known donor, which would seriously cut down on the potential for people to sacrifice organs or marrow simply for time off their sentence. 6/

Facilitating ethical organ donation would require communicating with incarcerated people (in their language) that they are able to donate-- if there is nothing in the way now, but people are not donating, they may not know, or simply may not want to donate. 5/

A bill should also make clear that incarcerated people's healthcare costs related to #OrganDonation are fully covered, and that all testing and care related to their donation is done in a hospital that performs donations, that medical care related to the donation is performed by the appropriate healthcare provider employed by that hospital, that the donor be unshackled during medical visits, CONTINUED

While the only answer to the issues of prisons is #abolition, I believe that there are better ways to facilitate living organ and #BoneMarrow donation for #incarcerated people

It would start with removing #Wellpath as the #MADOC healthcare provider so that we could ensure potential donors receive the right aftercare following invasive procedures&surgery. It is clear incarcerated people are not served by WellPath
