I wanted to pass on the good news about the Harper Collins Union strike action.
After reaching a tentative agreement, the union has voted to ratify the contract and they're going back to work on Feb 21.

Congratulations to #HCPUnion on a milestone reached!
It’s not over yet. Members have to approve the deal. Their voice, their power — that’s what this is about.

#HCPUnion Pending ratification from union members, but NPR reports "increases to minimum salaries across levels" and "a one-time $1,500 lump sum bonus."

The National Writers Union backs the Harper Collins Union on strike.
A recent 3rd-party initiative by the Authors Guild, proposing to resolve the dispute between workers and management, does not address essential #HCPUnion demands on pay and workplace diversity. The Authors Guild has moreover encouraged authors to work with scab editors.
The NWU and AG have partnered successfully to get writers paid in past. In this case, the NWU opposes the AG. The AG should side with workers.

We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with HarperCollins Union Local 2110 UAW in their fight for a fair contract. We urge HarperCollins Publishers to come back to the negotiating table and agree to a contract that reflects the Union’s need for diversity commitments, union protections, and wage adjustments. Publishing is a historically underpaid industry and current salaries do not reflect HarperCollins’s profits, the current cost of living, or salaries paid by peer media and publishing companies. Low wages affect everyone but are particularly hard on people who are underrepresented in the publishing industry—vital voices that HarperCollins needs to cultivate, not drive away. It should not take a strike for workers who make HarperCollins successful to get dignity and respect! Signatures as of 14 December 2022
Writers joining @neilhimself in solidarity with striking publishing staffers:
‘If HarperCollins wants me to keep writing books for them, they should treat the folks who put my books on shelves with dignity and respect. Otherwise, they might find that a lot of authors like me might be heading elsewhere.’

Day 30 of the #HCPUnion strike.
At this point, you have to wonder what it's gonna take to get HC to come to the table.
How many books are gonna have to slip their production and release dates?
I hate to say it, seems like it's gonna come down to action that hits the bottom line.
I'm generally not in the business of bringing Tweets over here, but this thread on the lowest you've been paid for full time work in publishing (with the year!!) is a brain bender. 🤯
