Keep your cat indoors.

In most of the world including ~~all of the U.S.~~, they are an incredibly destructive and invasive species. They kill more birds than wind turbines and windows combined. Especially the endangered, and most at risk ones.

Conservation orgs, especially governmental ones are scared of public backlash, so they avoid the topic or water the language down. We need to stop w/ that silliness.

No roaming cats, more native wildlife. Successful cat trapping effort leads to spike in Tasmanian devil population "A dedicated group of Landcare volunteers is behind a five-year feral cat trapping program that has led to an increase in native animals and birdlife in the area. The estuary and reserves that hug the coastline are home to a range of vulnerable native species, including the hooded plover, Tasmanian devils, spotted-tailed quolls and eastern barred bandicoot." "The scientists will tell you that the feral cats will eat about 100 kilos of native wildlife a year...Feral cats also spread diseases to humans and livestock." >> https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06-28/cat-trapping-northern-tasmania-devil-population-increase/106813282 #biodiversity #wildlife #cats #harm

🦋 POLLINATOR WEEK 🐝

📰 Netherlands: Newly created biodiversity‑offset grasslands are already strong habitat for wild pollinators.

🌼 Offset sites had 2X more wild bees than long‑established grasslands, plus higher bee species richness. Hoverflies and flower abundance were similar, even if species mixes differed.

🛠️ Researchers stress that success depends on careful planning and active management.

🌻 “...when implemented well, biodiversity offset sites can be as good, and may initially even be better, than existing sites in terms of wild pollinator species richness.”

Biodiversity offsetting shows promise in pollinator conservation

Newly created grassland habitats that compensate for nature lost to development can effectively support wild pollinators like bees and hoverflies, according to a first of its kind study in the Netherlands. The findings are published in the Journal of Applied Ecology.
