Seasonal Operations

Governors Island National Monument will be closed this winter. Both Castle Williams and Fort Jay will be closed and access to NPS staff will be extremely limited. The rest of the island will be open for visitors. Check https://www.govisland.com/ for island winter events and ferry schedule. Look to this page for re-opening information in the spring of (1/2)

Labor Day opening

Monday, September 1, 2025. Fort Jay and Castle Williams will be open in honor of Labor Day. The Forts will follow the weekend program schedule, 3 tours @ Castle Williams and 2 @ Fort Jay. Check our guided tour link above or recreation.gov for details

July 4th early island Closures

Due to a planned Harbor closure & street closures surrounding the BMB, Governors Island will close early on Friday, July 4, 2025. The Island hours are 7AM-3PM, check govisland.com for ferry schedule. Castle William and Fort Jay will close at 1pm.

Summer season operations change

Beginning, Sat, May 24, 2025, we will start a summer schedule. Forts will be open 10am to 5pm, Wed thru Sun. For safety, the Fort Jay front gate will be closed on days with winds of 35 mph sustained or gusts of 50mph, or higher.

Wednesday, 4/16 No vehicle access or parking allowed on the following roads. Pedestrian access will be maintained where sidewalks are present: - Hay Road - Andes Road West - Ferry Line Road - Soissons Landing West
