Been using Pip pen needles for some time now. I like them. They're comfortable to use and flow well.

Discovered they also have a glucometer. Starter kit is cheaper than buying the meter and test strips separately. They also have a subscription.

But you can't buy the starter kit without subscription. All buttons to buy it add the subscription kit, not the non-subscription kit.

Super deceptive dark pattern.

I managed to find a starter kit for Accu-Chek Instant to compare with. The kit, with 100 strips, is $50. Buying more strips is around 27 cents per strip. So it's cheaper than the Guide setup, but still more expensive than the ReliOn setup by a lot.

Tempted to buy it and do more comparisons and testing.

Accu-Chek Guide Me starter kit costs around $60 to $90. Test strips are 40 to 50 cents per strip.

ReliOn Platinum is a rebranded Accu-Chek meter (Instant?) with Accu-Chek test strips (also Instant?). Starter kit is less than $20 and test strips are 18 cents per strip.

If you're not sure about ReliOn's reliability, but trust Accu-Chek, this is a good cheap option.

What To Look For In A Glucometer

I received a question some time ago about which glucometer I would recommend, if any, and I thought I would put down some notes about this, since I do have opinions, but I also know full well that …

Universal Glucometer

Glucose test strips are expensive (especially in the long run) and each type only works for the meter they are made for. This is one reason many people do not test enough, since they can't really afford to. The goal of this project is to produce an accurate blood glucose measuring system that does not require proprietary strips from a single manufacturer but can (ideally) use any test strip from any meter. A Universal Glucometer would make it possible for people to use strips from any manufacturer for any meter allowing you to use any strips that are available. This would allow people to shop for the best priced strips, without having to buy a new meter.
