The four-day session assessing, analyzing, and validating findings regarding preparedness for effective response (PER), hosted by the #Afghan_Red_Crescent (ARCS), concluded following thorough discussions and the adoption of necessary decisions.
In the final day of the session, Sheikh al-Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, General President of the ARCS, Under-Secretaries-General, officials from central headquarters, regional zones, provincial representatives, Hossam Faisal, Head of the #IFRC delegation for Afghanistan, and representatives from the #ICRC, the #Turkish_Red_Crescent, the #Denmark_Red_Cross, the #Norway_Red_Cross, the #UK_Red_Cross, and the #Germany_Red_Cross were in attendance.
The General President of the ARCS expressed pleasure at the successful completion of the workshop and extended appreciation for the cooperation and active participation of central headquarters, regional zones, provincial representatives, and international partners. He noted that although the workshop’s duration was limited, the exchange of views and experiences among participants would play a significant role in improving operational activities within the organization.
He added that during the workshop, findings from 37 technical areas related to preparedness for effective response were assessed, and after joint consultations, ten key priorities were identified, which will be considered in future PER planning.
The General President of the ARCS urged officials from central headquarters, regional zones, and provincial representatives to share the lessons learned and experiences gained from this workshop with their colleagues and apply them to operational activities. He described the Afghan Red Crescent as the most important provider of services for orphaned families, those in need, people with disabilities, and patients, emphasizing that humanitarian aid must be delivered with sincerity, honesty, and a sense of responsibility.
Subsequently, the Head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (#IFRC) delegation for Afghanistan congratulated the ARCS on the successful completion of the workshop, stating that this technical process created an important foundation for improving organization and strengthening operational activities within the Afghan Red Crescent. He added that officials from regional zones and provincial representatives voiced their field-level shortcomings and needs and productive discussions ensued regarding solutions.
He also noted that through this workshop, the ARCS's priorities in preparedness for disaster response were clearly identified, providing partners with an opportunity to identify areas requiring sustained support.
He affirmed that the IFRC will tailor its assistance based on the defined priorities and that efforts to secure further support would continue. He also stated that the workshop report and action plan have been prepared, shared with the leadership of the ARCS, and will be ready for implementation once approved.
Molawi Ruhollah Abdulsalam, Deputy Director of Operations for the Afghan Red Crescent, said the workshop transparently identified existing shortcomings and opportunities for progress in preparedness and facilitated the determination of practical solutions through joint participation.
He added that following assessment of the 37 technical areas, the ten priorities defined will play a crucial role in strengthening transparency, accountability, and improving operational capacities, and he requested partner organizations to continue their support to implement these priorities.
The results of this workshop are expected to serve as a basis for developing and implementing an operational program to enhance preparedness within the Afghan Red Crescent against disasters, strengthen operational capabilities, and manage humanitarian services more effectively.
